POSITIONING YOUR RECOGNITION

Yes it's important what your recognition looks like. Yes it's important how big your recognition is. Yes it's important which materials your recognition is made of. Yes it's important how you list the names of your donors. However, the often missed element of turning a recognition into a highly successful recognition is placement. If it is hidden from your donors and potential donors all your best efforts can not make up for the unseen opportunity that a misplaced recognition produces.

Having installed many donor recognitions I would offer two pieces of advice:

  • Don't be invisible!
  • For group specific campaigns place your recognition where "they" will see it.

Following up on the need for proper placement, here are four campaign specific pointers on where to install your donor board as a function of the campaign cross-section and intention.

1. Large Capital Campaigns 'A' - main lobbies when possible - best if donors and would be donors pass by on site.

2. Large Capital Campaigns 'B' - send photos - use when donor base will not pass by installation.

3. Faculty and Staff Campaigns - site prominent yet visible to staff - one of the hardest logistically to carry out.

4. Annual Campaigns - prominent and send photos - besides placement, yearly analysis and adjustment of donor levels will yield the best results.
